I'm Yutaka Kurata, and I serve as the host of Shiki Villa Beppu. I was born and raised in Oita Prefecture and currently lead a two-base life traveling between Malaysia and Japan as both an engineer and architectural designer. My exploration of new forms of homestays was the catalyst for starting Shiki.
Leveraging my experience studying architecture at Kyoto University of the Arts, I specialize in designing spaces that respect Japan’s traditional sense of beauty while incorporating elements of tropical Malaysia. Beppu is my hometown, and Malaysia has become a place I can call my second home. Through your stay at Shiki Villa, I hope you’ll fully experience the appeal of these two “hometowns.” I will do my utmost to support you with heartfelt Japanese hospitality. Shiki is a Japan-born accommodation brand that incorporates the essence of tropical Malaysia. Founded in 2024 by Yutaka Kurata—an engineer and architectural designer from Oita Prefecture—Shiki aims to renovate traditional spaces in innovative ways and propose a new, more liberated lifestyle.
Operating mainly in Japan and Malaysia, Shiki offers unique experiences that leverage each region’s distinctive charms—for instance, a relaxing moment by a pool with an ocean view or soothing hot springs that bring rest to both body and mind.
